Dog Sledding – Kirkines – Norway

Kirkenes is a small town in far northeastern Norway, located in Troms og Finnmark county, very close to the border with Russia and near the Barents Sea. Kirkenes is located in the extreme northeastern part of Norway on the Bøkfjorden, a branch of the Varangerfjorden, which is a vast bay connected to the Barents Sea near the Russian–Norwegian border. The town is situated about 400 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, resulting in midnight sun and polar night both lasting for sustained lengths of time depending on season.

Dog sledding in Kirkenes offers an authentic Arctic experience, with snowy fjords, forests, and tundra as the backdrop. Most tours run from December to April, with options ranging from short rides to longer sled adventures, and some evening tours give a chance to see the Northern Lights. Operators provide warm winter clothing and safety guidance, making it accessible for first-timers, families, and photographers.
