Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most striking waterfalls, located on the Skógá River along the southern coast, near the town of Skógar. With a drop of 60 meters (200 ft) and a width of 25 meters (82 ft), it creates a thunderous curtain of water that can be seen from miles away. The sheer volume of water flowing over the edge produces a constant mist, which, on sunny days, often forms vivid rainbows, making it a favorite spot for photographers and travelers alike.
Visitors have two main ways to experience Skógafoss: you can approach the base for a full sensory experience of the waterfall’s roar and mist, or climb the stairs along the side to a viewing platform above, which offers panoramic views of the waterfall, the river, and the surrounding landscapes, including green cliffs and rolling hills.
