What it was: Checkpoint Bravo was the main highway border crossing between West Berlin and East Germany during the Cold War. It was officially called Grenzübergangsstelle Drewitz–Dreilinden.
Location: On the A115 motorway, southwest of Berlin, between Dreilinden (West Berlin) and Drewitz (GDR).
Checkpoint Bravo was used by Allied military and civilians to enter or exit West Berlin via road. It connected with Checkpoint Alpha near Helmstedt on the West German border.
Timeline:
- Architecture: The relocated site (1969–1972) included border control facilities, rest areas, and a gas station—many now protected as historic monuments.
Today: Remains as a memorial site, with some preserved buildings, exhibitions, and information boards curated by Checkpoint Bravo e.V.
