Kudamm Nights

A rainy evening in Berlin, where wet pavements, glowing shopfronts and passing traffic transform the city into a vivid study of light, colour and urban movement. Moving through the streets, the camera takes in reflections of red brake lights on the asphalt, pedestrians beneath leafy trees, illuminated advertising displays and the warm interiors of cafés and restaurants. The surrounding architecture provides a mixture of historic Berlin façades and contemporary commercial buildings, while the distant clock tower rises above the busy streetscape.

There is a distinctly cinematic quality to the footage. The rain softens the city’s edges, while neon signs, streetlights and shop windows create pools of colour against the deep blue of the evening sky. People appear and disappear through the frame, their movements adding a sense of everyday life and fleeting encounters. The camera shifts between wide street scenes and intimate urban details, from the glow of a café terrace to the graphic lettering of a late-night shopfront.

Rather than presenting Berlin as a collection of famous landmarks, the video finds its character in the ordinary rhythms of the city. It captures a place that feels simultaneously busy and contemplative, where architecture, weather and artificial light combine to create fleeting photographic moments. Berlin becomes a city of reflections, passing strangers and luminous fragments, with the rain acting as both a mirror and a filter through which the urban landscape is experienced.
